The story of the Buenida family is told by a wheel containing 7 parts. 7 represents the number of generations we meet throughout the story and each part of the wheel depicts an important event, from the moment José Arcadio Buenida first dreams about the city and until its ruin as the encrypted letter is deciphered. The shape of the wheel represents the circle of life and the story's circular nature of history repeating itself, showing how the Buenida family is trapped by their predetermined and ultimately doomed fates.
